Seychelles became a crown colony, separate from Mauritius in 1903. Consisting of 115 islands, it is one of the world’s smallest Countries with many beautiful beaches and marine life. Victoria, its capital, is situated on the Island of Mahe. It comprises of two main island groups – Mahe group which has > 40 islands and Coralline group which comprises of > 70 islands. Creole (Mother Tongue), English and French are their national languages.

The Island produces COCO DE MER (also known as sea coconut) – the largest and heaviest fruit in the world. It is home to the world’s oldest living creature The Giant Tortoise and other rare animals such as the Green Sea Turtle, 900 species of fish, snakes, tiger chameleons, Black Parrot & the Seychelles bulbuls. Considerable efforts have been made to preserve the island’s marked biodiversity. Seychelles’ government has established several nature preserves and marine parks, including the Aldabra Islands and Vallée de Mai National Park and both are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The tsunami that reached Seychelles in 2004 damaged portions of the transportation, infrastructure, including the road linking Victoria with the international airport. Telecommunications infrastructure in Seychelles is quite developed & the country has a high rate of cell phones & personal computers, much higher than the regions average.
