Udaipur, the capital of erstwhile kingdom of Mewar, was founded in 1559. It is dominated by the majestic City Palace, overlooking the Lake Pichola, also known as Venice of the East. The city is known for its heritage sites, Luxury hotels and exciting places like the Vintage and Classic Car Museum. A trip to Udaipur remains incomplete without shopping for traditional Rajasthani fabric and handicrafts. It’s renowned for ethnic jewellery types like Lacquer earrings, Silver, Gold, and Artificial Jewellery.
It has been the most preferred wedding destination for celebrities from Liz Hurley, Raveena Tandon, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Sanjay Hinduja over the years, to Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, Virat Kohli and Anushka, Ranveer and Deepika Padukone and recently Isha Ambani (pre wedding).
Set on a four- acre island, the magnificent Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur was long associated with Hollywood with movie scenes like Scent of a Woman and James Bonds’ 1983 film – Octopussy. Considered one of the most romantic hotels in the world, it appears to float atop the placid Lake Pichola, offering guests a royal welcome with flowers thrown from the terrace & an overall secluded holiday. The marriage of Kalki Koechlin in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani in 2013 was shot in The Oberoi Udaivilas Hotel & one of its most popular songs ‘Kabira’ was also shot in the same hotel. Gangaur ghat, Fatehsagar, Pichola Lake, and City Palace have all been famous filming sites. Udaipur’s romance with Bollywood had started in the 60s with films like Guide & Mera Saaya.
Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, the current king of Udaipur is also the Chairman of HRH group of hotels. His son Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar also, Executive director, is known to be a keen sportsman, art collector and philanthropist. Udaipur’s hospitality industry has been booming with huge investments made by leading 5 star hotel-brands, especially around the Lake Pichola area.
The city has seen a growth of hotel brands like Leela, Lemon Tree, Trident, The Lalit, Radisson Blu, Ananta, Ramada, Golden Tulip, Tree of Life etc. Luxury hotels & resorts have to maintain their royal architecture and high end services to attract foreigners & maintain their reputation and standards for long weekend, celebrity and getaway travellers. As Udaipur is hot during the summers & can reach the peak, its winters are around 32 degrees Celsius so using air conditioners are a must to make guests comfortable. However, supplementing with uninterrupted & Whisper Quiet technology used by Designer Fan brands such as Luxaire means that these hotels can use Old world Charm Fans, Vintage and Victorian style Wooden blade Fans for guest rooms and Al fresco restaurants.
The Shadow play of Contemporary Pendant lights, offers a luxurious glow at night, and help in creating a romantic mood for royal heritage hotels. A touch of green from custom crafted Designer Planters offer respite from the heat – whether it’s in the portico, garden, swimming pool, Restaurant, Jacuzzi or in the suite room.
These renowned luxury hotels offer guests a chance to experience some of their fave movie locations, whether it is sipping on a Martini that’s shaken, not stirred or to dance the Tango!
